Sometimes incorrectly set permissions for your browser and/or system can prevent you from recording your Vidcast. These can also affect your ability to record your screen.
In this article you will find:
Browser permissions
*Keep in mind, Vidcast recordings can only be made using Chrome or Microsoft Edge browsers.
Check camera permissions in Chrome
To check camera permissions in the Chrome browser, simply click on the lock icon next to your browser search bar.
Browser permissions menu will come up, make sure both Camera and Microphone options are toggled on.
Check camera permissions in MS Edge
To check camera permissions in the MS Edge browser, simply click on the lock icon next to your browser search bar and then click Permissions for this site.
โ
Make sure you are reviewing permissions for https://vidcast.io and then check that both Camera and Microphone are set to Allow.
System permissions
Still having trouble after correctly setting your browser settings? Let's move to checking your system permissions.
Check camera permissions for Mac
For Mac users: go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera and/or Microphone.
Then check that the Google Chrome and/or Microsoft Edge options are toggled on.
Check screen recording permissions for Mac
Go back to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording...
...and ensure the check box(es) next to Chrome/Microsoft Edge are selected.
A pop-up should appear indicating that Google Chrome (or Microsoft Edge) will need to quit before it is able to record the contents of your screen. Click "Quit & Reopen" to exit out of all running instances of Google Chrome.
And then, simply reopen Chrome or Edge and finish recording your Vidcast!
If issues with screensharing persist, try removing and re-adding Chrome manually with plus/ minus buttons.
Check camera and screen permissions for PC
For PC users: go to Settings > Privacy.
โ
In the sidebar on the left, under "App Permissions" click Camera. Make sure that the "Allow apps to access your camera" toggle is turned on.
Then scroll down to the next section, called "Allow desktop apps to access your camera". Your browser (Chrome or Edge) should be listed under this section. Just like before, make sure the toggle is turned on.
Then just reopen Chrome or Edge and finish recording your Vidcast!
Further troubleshooting tips
Check to see if the issue occurs both when using Chrome and MS Edge (Mac version can be downloaded here). If just one browser works, the issue probably lies with the browser.
Make sure your browser is updated to the most recent version. For Chrome, you can copy/paste chrome://settings/help into your search bar. And for Edge, use edge://settings/help
If all permissions are set correctly and recording still does not work, you can paste this command chrome://restart or edge://restart into your search bar and hit enter. This will fully reset the browser.
If you decline camera and/or microphone permissions in Webex, we are unfortunately unable to re-prompt you to allow them again. Currently the only solution is to re-install Webex.
