Setting up your recording
Opening Vidcast Desktop application from your Dock will right away open the familiar recording setup window with a camera preview, where you can enable/disable your audio input, enable/disable your camera, select screen to share and change various settings.
Screen share settings will allow you to pick which screen you want to share.
Recording of specific windows only is coming soon.
When screen-sharing, you can change the size of your camera bubble in the top right corner of the preview window (don't worry, you can always change the layout during recording while using Vidcast Desktop app).
And finally, clicking on the cogwheel will bring you to the application's settings. There you can change your microphone and camera inputs, select hot keys to start, stop or pause recording for easier control, switch to light/dark mode and check for updates. Account settings and Help Center will redirect you to relevant areas of our website.
Once everything is set up per your liking, hit that Start Recording button to create your video!
Recording Controls
Once you start recording, you will see the recording controls on your screen. It will feature familiar controls such is pause/start and end the recording, together with the duration timer. You can drag and drop the bar with controls to whatever position on the screen you prefer, or you can discreetly hide it in the lower right corner of your screen by clicking on the eye icon.
Please note that in full screen mode, we are recording everything on the screen, including the recording controls. If you hide them by clicking on the eye icon, you can also utilize hot keys to control recording.
One of the advantages of using Vidcast Desktop app is that you have a complete control over where your camera bubble is and its size. You can seamlessly change its position by dragging the bubble to preferred position and you can also re-size it by clicking and dragging one of the corners.
You can also seamlessly switch the camera bubble to full-screen mode by hovering over the camera bubble where you will find additional controls.
Going from left to right, the Undo button will revert last change to your camera bubble layout. The middle button will allow you to toggle on on full-screen mode for your camera.
And finally, the right most button will allow you to revert your camera bubble back to the default lower left corner.
After the recording
Once you end the recording by clicking on the stop recording button, or by toggling on the appropriate hot key, you will be able to preview the end result of your work, trim both the beginning and the end of the video and select a title for your masterpiece.
Once you click on Save button, you will be redirected to Vidcast website, where you can view the video, edit it and assign share permissions as needed.
Troubleshooting
Desktop application is unable to screen share.
If you come across a rare scenario where the desktop application is not able to screen share anymore (even if it was able to before), it is most likely because the desktop application was updated and your system has permissions enabled only for the old version.
To fix this, follow these steps:
Open your System Settings and navigate to Privacy & Security tab
Select Screen and System Audio Recording (Screen Recording on older versions of MacOS)
Select Vidcast and remove it by clicking on the minus button below the list (you might need to reenter your system password)
Click on the plus button and search for Vidcast. Select it in the list and click Open.
You will be prompted to restart Vidcast desktop application. Once the restart happens, you will be able to screen share again.
